Wool Day at Canterbury Shaker Villagecelebrates everything to do with producing and working with wool. Meet sheep, goats, rabbits and other fiber animals. Watch sheepdog-herding and shearing demos and learn how fleece is transformed into yarn. Try your hand at weaving, spinning, lace making, rughooking, needle felting, and dyeing and learn more about the history of your craft. Shop for unique yarns, roving and fiber art.Canterbury Shaker Village is a national historic landmark and a museum with 25 original Shaker buildings and 4 reconstructed ones. If you can pull yourself away from Wool Day activities on the grounds, you may visit the buildings on your own or take a guided tour. Highlights include the Laundry, which incorporated one of the earliest industrial washing machines and a steam-powered drying system, and the Sister's Shop, where the sisters created the fine needlework, weaving, and baskets sold at mountain, lake and seashore hotels and resorts throughout New England. For lunch, the Village’s famous chicken barbeque and buffet will be available for purchase and the Shaker Table restaurant will be open. On the way home, we will stop at Ewe'll Love It in Nashua, NH, "a trip to yarn heaven, knitters' nirvana and inspiration center all rolled into one" (with a coffee and chocolate shop conveniently located around the corner)and receive a 10% group discount on yarn purchases.
We will pick up at Newton Riverside at 8:30 am; Woburn Anderson Regional Transportation Center at 9:00 am and Andover Park & Ride Lot at 9:15 am. We will return to Boston at approximately 6:00 pm. For more information about pickup locations, click here.
